On November 7, 2023 Mayor Mike Turner, the Woodstock City Council, representatives of the Opera House Resident Companies, and members of the Friends of the Opera House gathered to celebrate the dedication of the new LED wall/screen for the main stage. It was a festive night with good food and a champagne toast. The highlight of the evening was a demonstration of how the wall works. It was used for the first time at the performance of the Neal Diamond tribute band and has been utilized for many of the subsequent programs on the main stage. Most notably it became an integral part of a wonderful one man show, From Broadway to Obscurity.
The LED wall is 23’ 4’’ wide, spanning with width of the stage—think of it as a backdrop that is initially invisible. It can be programed to show video of anything you can visualize that enhances the play or concert you are attending. Imagine watching the play White Christmas at the Opera House and as the barn doors open at the end you see the snow falling as the cast sings White Christmas. Perfection!!
The Friends of the Opera House were happy to donate $25,000 toward this purchase. Other groups that contributed to the cost were Woodstock Fine Arts Association and Theater 121.
